Friends From Far & Near

Many of my friends that I knew from Durham are currently serving in Indonesia, but not necessarily in places that I was planning to visit. I had contacted several of them before I left, just to check if they would be where I would be at any point on the journey, but none of them would be. Oh well.

So imagine my surprise to find out, yesterday afternoon, that my former roommate, Melissa, was in the very city I visited! She has moved to a different island, but was here doing paperwork. When she heard that I was here, she delayed her trip home for a couple days so we could spend some time together. She came over for supper last night, and I was delighted to see her! :)

...And that's not all. Just after we exchanged hugs, she told me she had brought a friend. A friend? Who? Ben, who had also been in our class in Durham! He had also been here doing paperwork, even though he doesn't live here either. It was sure nice to see him, too.

It feels kind of like I've been having a Durham reunion, only on the other side of the world! :)

Thanks for posting them so we can follow your wonderful adventure over there!! Enjoy your days there...the moments are going by so quickly I am sure.

So great that Melissa was there! This big world sure seems small sometimes. I guess you are probably soon on your way to Salatiga. We love you honey, and kind of feel like we are along on this trip vicariously. Thanks for keeping in touch!

And then this afternoon, who should I see but Joy Abbott? She & her husband were also in my class. I had imagined that they were gone from here already, but actually they are still here! A nice surprise!
